Carnegie subscribed to the ideals of social Darwinism-Natural selection and survival of the fittest. He believed that his extreme wealth was a result of his being the "fittest" to wield it. He also believed in the "Gospel of wealth" which lead him to give away a lot of his wealth through philanthropy.

Best describes Andrew Carnegie’s approach to his business holdings is:

First, He was skillful to anticipate the demand for railroad transportation and the limitless opportunities that surround this demand. Second, He put all his money by investing in all the companies that contributed the supplies in railroads and having a profit while continually doing it. Third, He calculated well his investments so when he gets retired he can be obtained more than of them. And lastly, He increases his investments and ownership percentage in all his businesses. He bought his partner’s shares when his partners needed the money so badly.
