The simplified expression of 2(x-5) is 2x - 10.

x does not have a value and therefore must be a coefficient.

5 is a normal number and can be multiplied with 2.

You apply the distributive property which means that the 2 should multiply both the x and the -5. You get:

2*x - 2*5 = 2x-10
