Mr. Klampett has been asked to partition some space in a garage for storage. He estimates 8 square feet of storage space per individual will be required to meet the needs of 12 people. If the storage space takes up 15% of the garage, what is the size of the garage?

The garage is ----- square feet.

storage space equals 96
since the storage space is only 15% of the total space (100), then that means there is 85% space left needed, to get the other 85 percent you then need to divide 100 by 15 which is 6.6666

after that you then multiply 6.6666 by 96 because the storage space is 15% of the garage and that is the 15%.

the total garage space is 640 ft²

If there are 8 sq. ft for each of 12 people, then there is 96 sq ft allotted for storage. Put this into a usable equation now: 96=.15x and x = 640
