You can see a definite downward trend as variable x increases. Were you to draw a straight line with neg. slope thru these points, trying to keep the line centered among the points, you'll find that the change in y is roughly -6 when x increases by 8. That gives us the rough slope of -6/8, or -3/4, or -0.75.
