Answer:

300 liters

Explanation:

The capacity of the tank is unknown, so we call it x.

The tank starts 4/5 full, so the amount of water in the tank is 4/5 x.

190 liters of water are drawn from the tank, so now the tank has

4/5 x - 190 liters of water left.

We are told that the amount of water left is 1/6 of the capacity of the tank, so the tank now has 1/6 x of water.

4/5 x - 190 = 1/6 x

We now solve the equation for x, the capacity of the tank.

We need a common denominator for 5 and 6. We can use the LCD of 5 and 6 which is 30.

Multiply both sides of the equation by the LCD to eliminate the fractions.

30(4/5 x) - 30 * 190 = 30 * 1/6 x

30/5 * 4x - 5700 = 5x

6 * 4x - 5700 = 5x

24x - 5700 = 5x

Subtract 5x from both sides. Add 5700 to both sides.

19x = 5700

Divide both sides by 19.

x = 300

Answer: 300 liters
