Read the student’s response, which argues in favor of the local skate park. Then, read the new information.

How could the student adjust the response in light of this new information? Write a paragraph that explains your answer.

Student's response:

The Centers for Disease Control state that young people should have at least 30 minutes of activity outside of school every day. The best facility to help our community achieve this goal would be an outdoor skate park. Students would get valuable exercise in a safe environment away from dangerous traffic. Students would be able to exercise safely and effectively.

New Information:

A letter to the editor is published in a local paper. It argues that skate parks do not offer anything to people who do not know how to skate.

Answer:

The student is in favor of a skating park, but a letter to the editor argues that it does not offer anything to people who cannot skate already. The student can adjust the response by providing some solutions to this problem. He or she could recommend volunteer-run skating classes to newcomers. The student could also suggest that the skating park include other facilities, such as a basketball court, for people who do not know how to skate.
