More than half of older people in the United States depend on Social Security for more than 50 percent of their income. Studies have shown that the majority of older adults rely on Social Security to cover half of their income. Social Security is a set rate that is paid back to those over the set age to receive a percentage of their wages they earned prior to retirement.
