Change the fractions so that the denominators are the same. This requires you to find the least common multiple of 2 and 6:

Multiples of 2: {2,4,6}
Multiples of 6: {6}

The least common multiple is 6. Convert the fraction with 2 as a denominator by multiplying it by the multiple that makes it 6:

6 / 2 = 3

(1)/(2) * (3)/(3) = (3)/(6)

6 (1)/(2) = 6 (3)/(6)

Add 7 5/6 to both sides, and simplify the results.

6 (3)/(6) + 7 (5)/(6) = 13 (8)/(6) = 14 (2)/(6) = 14 (1)/(3)

The answer is 14 1/3.
