We are going to choose a line:
y = -7 / 5x + 7.6
To verify that it is the line that best suits, we evaluate some points.
For (0, 8):
y = -7 / 5 (0) +7.6
y = 7.6
For (6, 0)
y = -7 / 5 * (6) +7.6
y = -0.8
For (1, 6)
y = -7 / 5 * (1) +7.6
y = 6.2
We observe that the results are very similar to the coordinate y of each point evaluated.
Therefore, the equation is a good approximation.
Answer:
A linear regression equation that best fits the given points is:
y = -7 / 5x + 7.6
