Answer:

I know it is late but for future reference by others who area asking

Total surface area is 3,180 square inches

Explanation:

step 1--find the area of the triangle 1

A= 1/2 ab

= 1/2(12 in)(40 in)

=1/2 (480 sq. in)

= 240 sq. in

so in similarly of triangle 2 will be the same as triangle 1 = 240 sq. in.

step 3-find the area of rectangle 3

A= cd

=(30 in)(37 in)

= 1,110 sq. in

step 4-find the area of rectangle 4

A=bc

=(40 in)(30 in)

=1,200 sq in.

step 5-find the area of rectangle 5

A= ce

=(30 in)(13 in)

=390 sq in.

Add all the areas together to get total surface area of the given figure

Total surface area = 2(1/2ab) + (cd) + (bc) + (ce)

=2(240) sq in. + 1,100 sq in. + 1, 200 sq in. + 390 sq in.

= 480 sq in + 1,100 sq in. + 1, 200 sq in. + 390 sq in.

=3,180 sq in.
