A coordinate grid is placed over a map and every unit represents 1 mi.

The point at (3, 8) represents the location of the baseball stadium and the point at (7, –2) represents the location of the post office.

To the nearest tenth of a mile, what is the distance between the baseball stadium and the post office?

That would be , by distance formula:-

sqrt ((7-3)^2 + (-2-8)^2)
= sqrt 116

= 10.77 = 10.8 miles to neaREST 1/10

(3,8), (7,-2)
distance as vector:
(7-3,-2-8)=(4,-10)

calculate vector length:
√(4²+10²)=√(16+100)=√(116)=10.77
so 10.77≈10.8 miles is the distance between the stadium and the post office
