Explanation:

1*x-2*y=4

1*x = 4 + 2*y

x = 4 + 2*y

Now you replace the value of x on the following equation:

-1*x+10*y=8

-1*(4 + 2*y) = 8

-4 - 2*y = 8

-2*y = 8+4

-2*y = 12

y = -12/2

y = -6

You replace the value of y in the previous equation:

x = 4 + 2*y

x = 4 + 2*(-6)

x = 4 - 12

x = -8
