Hi there! I have never read one of Avi's books so, i will do one on Black Beauty by Anna Sewell.

Black Beauty was taken place in 19-century England, a time when there were no cars, no phones, just the wonderful and amazing horse to pull the carriages and deliver messages (with the help of a rider of course). Anna Sewell wrote Black Beauty in 1877, so it was not really based on historical events, just current ones. In Anna's time, some horses had a difficult life pulling cabs, and she used that in her story. Anna's book literally changed laws. Her book changed 6 and 7-day cab licenses, so the horses could have more time off.
