Rational means it can be written as a ratio of integers.

Examples of rational numbers are:

Fractions of integers (ex, 5/4)

Terminating decimal (ex, 7.3 = 73/10)

Repeating decimal (ex, 0.0111... = 1/90)

Square roots of perfect squares (ex, √100 = 10/1)

Irrational numbers can't be written as a ratio of integers.

Examples of irrational numbers are:

Non-repeating, non-terminating decimals (ex, π)

Square roots of non-perfect squares (ex, √2)
