PLEASE HELP TRYING TO MAKE HONOR ROLL

A garden table and a bench cost $1000 combined. The cost of the garden table is three times the cost of the bench. What is the cost of the bench?

Use the system of equation. Let "garden table" = x, and "bench" = y.

x + y = 1000

x = 3y

Solve for each variable. Note that x = 3y. Plug in 3y for x in the first equation:
