1)First, we cancel the sides evenly:

2.25x + 5 = 13.5x +14

2)5 on the left cancels out, 14 is now 9. We cancel the 13.5x onto the other side:

2.25x = 13.5x +9

-13.5x -13.5x

3)13.5x cancels on the left, on the right it is now -11.25x.

4)With that being said, all we have to do is divide the -11.25 to the other side to get the value of x.

-11.25x = 9

/-11.25 /-11.25

5)Which gives you the value of x, -.8
