Two children are sitting on opposite ends of a seesaw of negligible mass. Of 40 kg child is 2.0 m from the pivot point, how far from the pivot point will the other 30 kg child sit on the seesaw to be at equilibrium?

Answer:

Distance of the second child from the pivot point will be 2.66 m

Step-by-step explanation:

We have given mass of the first child
m_1=40kg

Distance from the pivot point
d_1=2m

Mass of the second child
m_2=30kg

We have to find the distance of the second child from the pivot point

For this we have to balance the moment

So
m_1d_1=m_2d_2

40* 2=30* d_2

d_2=2.66m

So the distance of the second child from the pivot point point will be 2.66 m
