The specifications for an automobile part (in inches) are 10.00 ± 0.15, and the Taguchi loss function is estimated to be L(x) = 9,300 (x - T) 2. Determine the estimated loss per part if the concerned quality feature has an actual value of 10.20 inches.

a. $37200

b. $93000

c. $372

Answer:

c.372

Step-by-step explanation:

The Taguchi loss function shows the customer disatisfaction when we have any variation from the nominal (target) value of the automobile part (in this example), this disatisfaction will increase gradually when we move away fron the target value ( In this case 10.00) even though the value is within specification limits.

In this case, we have an actual value of 10.2, this value is outside the upper specification limit which is 10.00+0.15 = 10.15

With Taguchi loss function we can calculate the loss because of dissatisfaction for the point 10.2 where:

  • x= 10.2
  • T (target)= 10.

Then:

L (x) = 9,300 *(10.2-10.00)^(2)  = 9,300*(0.2^(2) )= 372

Good luck!
