Draw a horizontal line , represented by a dark horizontal line through y = 1, starting from the extreme left of y = 1, stopping at x = -2. This takes care of the first third of the graph.

2) Graph x on the interval -2 < x < 2 as follows: Draw a very light line with slope +1 through the origin. Next, draw a circle at both (-2, -2) and (2, 2). Do not fill in these circles. Now darken the line connecting (-2, -2) and (2, 2).

3) Graph the last part of this piecewise defined function as follows:

Plot a dark dot at (2, 2). Starting at this dark dot, draw a dark horizontal line to the right as far as the edge of graph. This takes care of f(x) = x for x ≥ 2.
