I don't really have an answer but maybe this definition may help! : An electronic circuit, usually an integrated circuit, whose output has two stable states to which it is directed by the input signal or signals. It is more usually known as a flip-flop. The term is also applied to other devices with two stable states, such as certain switches and relays
