AD=DB and
CF = FB, by midsegment definition.

Also, if
DF is a mid segment, then
AC \parallel DF.


CF=6(y-1) and
FB=4y, by given.

Replacing each of the segments, we have


CF = FB


6(y-1)=4y\\6y-6=4y\\6y-4y=6\\2y=6\\y=3

Therefore, the value of y is 3.
