$54.50 * 0.15 = $8.175

or you can simply do it in your head, especially for easy numbers like 10,15,20,25 etc.,

54.50/10 = 5.45/2=2.725 <- 10% first and then half of that.

Add

5.45 + 2.725 = $8.175
