8x-8x--->cancels out

-4y-(-2y) = -2y

20-2=18

solve for y. y= -9

2. plug in -9 for y for one of the equations

8x-2(-9)=2

8x+18=2

8x= -16

x= -2

Check:

8(-2) - 4(-9)=20

-16+36=20

20=20
