If the forces are equal and opposite why does the rocket
ship move?​

If there are two forces acting on a rocket, and the forces are equal and opposite, then they add up to zero, and there is no NET force at all on the rocket.

Then the rocket can only move at a constant speed in a straight line. It can't have any acceleration (change of speed or direction.)
