Explanation:

For the graduated cylinders, you just read off the bottom of the meniscus (which is basically the curvature of the liquid that's shown in the graduated cylinder). Then find what increments the cylinder is going by and count.

As for the balances, you want to find which part of the balance has the highest amount of grams (in #1's case, it would be 700, which is in the middle of the balance). this is the part of the balance that has the largest amount of weight to it. then you go down to the 2nd heaviest weight (20), and the lightest weight (2.9). Add all of these weights together, and you will get the total amount of mass for whatever is being weighed.
