Answer:

x = 2, -7

Explanation:

We can start by finding two numbers which add to make 5 and multiply to make -14. The only two which fit the bill are 7 and -2, and using that fact, we can break apart the middle term of the polynomial:

x^2-2x+7x-14=0

From the
x^2-2x, we can factor out an x, and from the
7x-14, we can factor out a 7, giving us

x(x-2)+7(x-2)=0

Or, factoring out the
x-2,

(x-2)(x+7)=0

Solving
x-2=0 gives us
x=2, and solving
x+7=0 gives us
x=-7, so our solutions are
x=2, -7
