Hip joint is a socket joint used during stick balance assessment.

EXPLANATION:

  • Socket joint is the joint of the body where the ball-shaped round bone of one side fits into the cup-shaped bone of another side.
  • Examples of Socket joints are shoulder joint and hip joint of the body.
  • It is also called a ball and socket joint.
  • They allow movement of the bone in all directions.
  • Bones in the hip, which is a socket joint, may wear and tear with age or due to injury.
  • Balance assessment is done to assess fall risk or to know the reasons for balance disorders in a person.
  • Now, when a person uses a stick to walk, the pressure on the hip socket joint is transferred to the stick and a person can balance on the stick and walk.
  • This way, the socket joint of the hip is used during stick balance assessment.
