The American Society for the Study of Confections and

Delicacies (ASSCD) today released a report citing candy as
one of the healthiest food groups that children and adults
can consume. The ASSCD called for immediate
realignment of the food pyramid to include candy as an
abundant source of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.
Professor Deborah P. Linder believes that people who
consume candy on a regular basis are 70 percent more
likely to lead long and healthy lives, as opposed to those
that eat only junk food, such as cabbage and broccoli. The
amino acid thalythin, found in all sugary substances, has
been proven to oxygenate the blood, allowing for a great
flow of vital nutrients to the heart and brain." Linder also
reports that candy may also boost brain function and
increase IQ among individuals, although further tests to
prove this finding are needed.
