-47 - 15y =-17.....Equation A

-x+ 5y=-13..........Equation B

Solve B for y.

-x + 5y = -13

5y = x - 13

y = (x - 13)/5

Plug y into A.

-47 -15y = -17

-47 -15(x - 13)/5 = -17

-47 -3(x - 13) = -17

-47 -3x + 39 = -17

-3x - 8 = -17

-3x = -17 + 8

-3x = -9

x = -9/-3

x = 3

Now that we know x is 3, plug 3 for x into EITHER Equation A or B (your choice) to find y.

I will let you do that.
