a + 3 = 2a + 2

move 2a to the other side

sign changes from +2a to -2a

a-2a+3= 2a-2a + 2

a-2a+3=2

-a+3=2

move 3 to the other side

-a+3-3= 2-3

-a= 2-3

-a= -1

mutiply both sides by -1 to get +a

(-1)(-a)=(-1)(-1)
