Define equilibrium ........

From a biological standpoint, equilibrium is usually expressed in terms of homeostasis.
Homeostasis in a living organism is the regulation of the internal environment so as to maintain a stable, constant condition. Manifold dynamic equilibrium adjustment and regulation mechanisms make homeostasis possible. The concept derives from milieu interieur created in 1865 by Claude Bernard, often considered the father of physiology.
Regulators maintain parameters at a constant level over possibly wide ambient environmental variations. On the other hand, conformers allow the environment to determine the parameter. For instance, endothermic animals (regulators) maintain a constant body temperature, while exothermic animals (conformers) exhibit wide body temperature variation.
