Explanation:

What is the median of a set of data? Well first thing is what does the median mean or what is the definition of a median? A median is the number halfway through a set or the middle of a set.

Yet how do we find this median of the set we are given? Well we have to rearrange the set from smallest to the largest! So let us get started

You have 66, 51, 77, 68, 60, 75, 54 and 80. There are a few ways you could do this, but, a math teacher showed me a different method to find the numbers. But for just keeping this short we will just look at it and sort them.

All the numbers are larger than 10 so we o know these numbers or in the tens place.

Do we have any...

10s? Nope

20s? Not a single one

30s? Don't see any

40s? Absolutely not

50s? => Yes, we do. What are the numbers? 54 and 51! Well what number is smaller? 51 is. Then we have 54.

So there are the first two. Let keep going.

Do we have any...

60s? => Yes! We have 66, 68, and 60! So let sort them from smallest to largest! 60, 66, 68. That is all the 60s let keep going

Do we have any...

70s? yep! What are these 70s numbers? 77 and 75. Rearrange them to smallest to greatest. => 75, 77

Do we have any...

80s? yep! We only have one 80s number which is actually just 80. Let keep going again!

Do we have any...

90s? Nope

We are done sorting them out and rearranging them again. So let bring them all together shall we?

51, 54, 60, 66, 68, 75, 77, 80

Now the final part is what is the median, what number is in the middle. To find this some people would cross out the outermost number one-by-one and circle the middle one so let try that (I will underline the numbers crossed out)

51, 54, 60, 66, 68, 75, 77, 80

51, 54, 60, 66, 68, 75, 77, 80

Weird we can't cross out the other two. Why? Well then they won't be a median or a middle number. So how do we do this? Well the next step is to average these numbers to get the median. How do we do that?

1. You take the two numbers and add them together.

66+68= 134

2. Next, you divide the number we just got. So...

134 divided by 2 equals to 67.

The median for this set we have is 67!

I hope I helped you out with this, and I really do hope you understand and I'm sorry that I typed a lot. I do sometimes answer in details. That's just how I like to give answers to people. By the way i do have attached a picture of how to solve this and me dividing the 134 by 2. I didn't know how to show it on her more detailed. But them again I hope I helped you and don't be afraid to message or comment! Have a great day.
