Hello, this question has been quite difficult to figure out, and after hours of failed attempts at finding the answer, I've decided to finally ask for help.

Q:Washington Middle School’s school flag has a height:width ratio of 12:27. If the school flag is 32 inches high, what is its width?

If the school flag is 48 inches wide, what is its height to the nearest tenth of an inch?

Answer:

72 inches

21.3 inches

Explanation:

Write a proportion:

height / width = 12 / 27

If height = 32 inches:

32 / width = 12 / 27

Cross multiply:

12 × width = 32 × 27

Solve for width:

width = 32 × 27 / 12

width = 72

If width = 48 inches:

height / 48 = 12 / 27

Cross multiply:

27 × height = 12 × 48

Solve for height:

height = 12 × 48 / 27

height = 21.3
