I look at the first sentence-- the last person mentioned in the sentence is Tritt. So I use X for Tritt.

Jan's age is 3 less than twice Tritt's age===== 2x-3

then it tells us that the sum of the Tritt and Jans age is 30

the equation looks like this:

x+2x-3=30

3x-3=30

3x=33

x=11

Trit is 11
