This year a small business had a total revenue of $36,300. If this is 34% less than the total revenue the previous year, what was the total revenue the previous year?

The previous year's total revenues is definitely MORE THAN 36,300.

Let previous year's revenue be y

So we can say:

36,300 IS 34% LESS THAN y

Note: 34% means 0.34

THis in equation would be translated as:

36,300 = y - 0.34(y)

Solving, we get:

36,300 = y - 0.34y

36,300 = 0.66y

y = 36,300/0.66

y = 55,000

Hence, last year's total revenue was $55,000
