"Green" and Simple, end bold, Jim Franklin runs a small grocery store in Terryville, Wisconsin. Like many small business owners, he is concerned about saving money. He buys his products from local farms and produce suppliers, drives his own truck around town as much as possible to pick up food and other supplies for his store, and always turns off the lights in his back office when he is working in the front of the store. Since he lives in a temperate climate, he rarely relies upon air-conditioning in the summer, though heat is essential in the winter.Jim knows that he is saving hundreds of dollars a year through these business practices. What he does not realize though, is that he is also being "green." The practical approach Jim uses to run his store conserves important resources. Jim's reliance upon local suppliers for his products ensures that his customers are getting the freshest food possible while reducing shipping costs that he would incur by acquiring goods from outside the local area. Because Jim drives himself around town, he saves gas and prevents harmful pollutants that are often the by-product of larger delivery trucks from entering the air.In this way, running a "green" business can be no more difficult than turning off the lights before heading home or stopping by the neighborhood grocery store to grab food for dinner. People will often find that it is not only cheaper to shop locally, but also better. In the process, people may also find that they make new friends!

Answer:

4. saving money and preserving the environment

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the passage, the author makes reference to Jim Franklin's idea about saving money and running a "green" store. In that respect, Jim drives his own truck to buy supplies for his store in order to reduce shipping costs and prevent air pollution from larger vehicles. Besides, he turns off the lights he is not using so that he saves energy.
