A coil of wire with 50 turns lies with the cross section of the coil in the plane of the page and has an initial area of 0.120 m2. The coil is now stretched to have no area in 0.100 s. What are the magnitude and direction of the average value of the induced emf if the uniform magnetic field points into the page and has a strength of 1.29 T?

Step-by-step explanation:

It is given that,

Number of turns in the coil, N = 50

Initial area, A = 0.12 m²

The coil is now stretched to have no area in 0.100 s, t = 0.1 s

Magnetic field, B = 1.29 T

According to Faraday's law:

E=-N(d\phi)/(dt)

E=-NB(dA)/(dt)

E=-50* 1.29\ T* (0-0.12)/(0.1)

E = 77.4 volts

According to Lenz law, the direction of induced current is in clockwise direction. Hence, this is the required solution.
