Answer:

64 cm²

Explanation:

When a square is folded in half the resultant shape is a rectangle

With length equal to the side of the square and width half the side of the square.

let the length be x then the width is 0.5x

Form an equation and solve for x

x + x + 0.5x + 0.5x = 24 ← Perimeter of rectangle

3x = 24 ( divide both sides by 3 )

x = 8

Thus the side of the original square is 8 cm and

area = 8 × 8 = 64 cm²

Answer:

The answer for this question is : 64cm²

Explanation:

Firstly, Let the side of the square be "x"

When the paper is folded the resultant rectangle will have the same length as the side of the square and the width 1/2 of the square side.

So perimeter of the rectangle is :

x+
(x)/(2) +
x +
(x)/(2)

3x =
24

x = 8

x^(2) = 24cm²

The area of the original paper is 8 × 8 = 64cm²
