Marguerite sees god as white is a hint towards the racism which gets expressed well in “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” by Maya Angelou. Seeing God as white is the consequence of the bigotry of religion. The 'God' she has faced is considered to be an entity of whites. Having intimidation towards the church, led her to face several penances. Being brought up in a highly religious town, she had this longing and affection towards God since childhood. She believed that God was the only thing that could affirm her worth in the society and impose very high moral codes and conducts upon her. But slowly when she grows up, she realizes her worth and understands that religion has the ability to stimulate ignorance and submissiveness.
