The number is 32.

Explanation:

The equation: 13 + 0.5x = x - 3

I multiply both sides by two so that the half of x is just x, but there are other ways to do this: 2(13 + 0.5x) = 2(x - 3)

Simplify: 26 + x = 2x - 6

Add 6 to both sides and subtract x from both sides so integers and variables are separate: 32 = x
