1. When fertilizer ends up in waterways, the fertilizer gets carried to larger bodies of water. The added nutrients from the fertilizer creates excessive growth of algae, creating algal.

2. Eutrophication is what a water based ecosystem does when too much nutrients are added to it. it’s mainly caused by two nutrients, phosphorus and nitrogen. The biggest problem in eutrophication are algal blooms.

3. At the mouth of the Mississippi River there is a dead zone. Due to algae using up all the oxygen, aquatic organisms can not survive there. Things that can help prevent dead zones are cutting down on fertilizer use and preserving wetlands.
