Answer:

x=4

Explanation:

First you'll want to distribute 3 to 7x and -2

3(7x-2)=78

21x-6=78 Next, add 6 to both sides to isolate x.

21x=84, Now, divide both sides by 21 to solve for x.

x=4

3(7x-2)=78

Multiply the bracket by 3

21x-6=78

Move -6 to the other side. Sign changes from -6 to +6

21x-6+6=78+6

21x=84

Divide by 21 for 21x and 84

21x/21=84/21

x=4

Check answer by using substitution method

3(7x-2)=78

3(7*4-2)-78

3(28-2)=78

84-6=78

78=78

Answer: x=4
