QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!!!! A family has two cars. The first car has a fuel efficiency of 40 miles per gallon of gas and the second has a fuel efficiency of 25 miles per gallon of gas. During one particular week, the two cars went a combined total of 2150 miles, for a total gas consumption of 65 gallons. How many gallons were consumed by each of the two cars that week?

Answer:

the car with 40 miles per gallon consumed 35 gallons

the car with 25 miles per gallon consumed 30 gallons

Explanation:

40x+25y=2150

x+y=65

plug in 35 for x and 30 for y to double check.

x - gallons of first car

y - gallons of second car

x+y=65 gal

40x+25y=2150 mi

40x+25y=2150

25x+25y=1625

15x=525

x=35 gal

y=65-35=30 gal
