A) the relationship is linear ; y+4=2(x-1)
B) the relationship is not linear
C) the relationship is linear; y-1=-2(x+4)
D) the relationship is linear y;+4= -1/2 (x-1)

The answer is D. For a function to be linear, the slope must be the same at any given interval. I used the slope formula on two different sets of pairs to check if the relationship was linear. For both pairs I got m= -1/2. Since both pairs yielded the same slope, I assume it is a linear function with a slope of -1/2.

Then I plugged in (1,-4) and m into the slope intercept formula, I got y+4=-1/2(x-1)

Answer:

Yes it is linear and D

Explanation:

First, find if the slope is constant using the slope formula or other methods.

(y2-y1)/(x2-x1), when you do, you find that the slope is always equal to -1/2.

Now that you know to slope, you can solve for the b to find the equation.

y=-1/2x+b, plug in any point

(-4)=-1/2(1)+b, simplify

-3.5=b

y=-1/2x-3.5, now convert to vertex form

y=-1/2(x-1)-4 or y+4=-1/2(x-1)

So, D is the answer
