Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that, at first, the character of Ralph seems inflexible and quick-tempered, since his friend is asking him to stop reprimanding a kid, or to stop thinking about what the kid has done. But when he finishes by saying that, much like that kid, he never learnt a lesson, he reveals himself as a sympathetic and understanding person, and the reader somehow comes to terms with him.
