At a swimming pool the ratio of those wearing sunscreen to those not wearing sunscreen was 7 to 5. If the number of people not wearing sunscreen was 30, then how many people were wearing sunscreen?

Answer:

I think the answer is 42 to 30. 42 kids wearing sunscreen and 30 kids were not. 30 divided by 5 is 6. 6 x 5 is 30. so 6 x 7 is 42. Hence 42 to 30. :)

i.e 7:5

number of people not wearing sunscreen is 30

let us use part to part method to solve this problem

let the number of people wearing sunscreen be x

so,

7/5= x/30

cross multiply we have

5x=210

divide both sides by 5

x= 210/5

x=42 people are wearing sunscreen
