Answer:

The Width of the property is 1/2 (or 0.5) miles

Explanation:

Step I - Formula for the length of a rectangle is given as

L =
(A)/(w)

Where L = Lenght

A = Area and

w = Width

Step II - Insert values

We have L to be equal to 2 Miles, and

W to be equal to 1 square mile

Therefore

2 =
(1)/(w)

To obtain w, we have to collect like terms to one side of the equation by cross multiplying

So

(2)/(1) =
(1)/(w)

Cross multiplying we have

2w = 1

to get the value of w, we divide both sides by 2

(2w)/(2) =
(1)/(2)

On the left side we are left with w, whilst on the right side we are left with a fraction - 1/2 (which in decimal form is 0.5)

Therefore, w = 0.5 Miles and this is the width of the property.

To confirm, Area of a rectangle is given by A = w * l

If we insert our figures, we'd get 0.5 x 2

Which is equals to 1 which was given in the question.

Cheers!
