x = 4, y = -2.

Explanation:

-3y + 5x = 26

-2y - 5x = -16

Adding these will eliminate x:

-5y + 0 = 10

y = 10/-5 = -2.

Substitute for y in the first equation:

-3(-2) + 5x = 26

5x = 26 - 6

5x = 30

x = 4.

Check to see if these roots are correct in the second equation:

Left side -2(-2) - 5(4) = 4 - 20 = -16, so they are correct.
