I will be talking about how the conflict between the characters Hally and Sam is symbolic of a larger conflict between the white people and the black South Africans and I will also be describing what implied theme that their conflict represents. Since Hally is a white boy and he is the son of the owner he is master harold, and Sam and Willie are just the servants that work there. Sam and Hally have a friendship type of bond with each other even though back in the 1950s it was not at all allowed for black and white people friends because of the apartheid. Apartheid was a system of racial segregation based on skin colour common in South Africa. I think that the reason why the conflict between Hally and Sam is symbolic of a larger conflict between white and black South Africans is because of the apartheid and racial discrimination in South Africa. When you think about the title of the book "Master Harold.....and the boys" is says that Harold who is Hally is the white master of the servants Sam and Willie who are the boys which I think is related to the racial discrimination in the book. I think that the theme that is implied with their conflict represents racial discrimination.
