The inequality would be 273.98+(7.23*3)+42.36+78.12x which is less than or equal to 500. Now solve it. Think that the less than or equal to sign is a regular equal sign. Solve the inequality like a normal equation. When you solve it, you get 1. something. Just round it to 2 costumes.

Hope that helps!!

Answer: He can buy 2 outfits.

Explanation:

The data that we have is:

Mr. Trager has $500.00 to spend.

He buys:

- Bicycle for $273.98

- 3 bicycle reflectors for $7.23 each, so here he spends 3*$7.23 = $21.69

- 1 bicycle helmet for $42.36

So he spent a total of:

S = $273.98 + $21.69 + $42.36 = $337.97

the initial amount was: $500, so the amount of money that he has now is:

M = $500 - $337.97 = $162.03

Now, with this money he wants to buy cycling outfits, that cost $78.12 each, so the maximum number that he can buy is:

$78.12*x = $163.03

where x is the number of outfits:

x = 163.03/78.21 = 2.07

But he can not buy a 0.7 of an outfit, so we need to round down. This means that he can buy 2 outfits.
